In comments to this article, there is an intriguing link: https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/12/14/818 - a submission to the Linux kernel which adds support for the Microchip PIC32MZDA processor. AFAIK this chip is not yet announced by Microchip. Looks like it should be something similar to PIC32MZ (not EF), but with additional 128Mbytes of SDRAM in the same package.

Great, so let us wait on the new pic32mzda!!
Hopefully MCHP has understood we need SDIO as well!!
:)
PS: from the sources above the MCHP has introduced an SDHCI controller.
Hopefully the same as the SDIO..
