It may horrify you to learn that I've managed to get retrobsd compiling for 16-bit 8086. It doesn't quite work yet, and the kernel is too large with the compiler I'm using, but the number of changes was small and confined to places where pic32 dependencies had crept into sys/kernel files. And I still have to write a few drivers for the target platform, and I have to figure out the size issues. Oh, and this is just the kernel...

And yes, that's 8086, not anything with a MMU :). The target machine currently runs Venix/86R and I thought this would make a nice upgrade. So much nicer than starting with the raw 2.11BSD sources too, since you have the whole config thing ported over...

Anyway, doesn't seem to be much life in these boards these days... why's that?

Is that a homebrew machine?

I'm cobbling together a dual floppy IBM 5160 + XT-IDE + Intel Inboard/386 + 5153 monitor for kicks and nostalgia (the IBM PC + 5153 was my first PC as a kid).
